Guide to the best Craft Beer Bars, Taprooms and Shop in Singapore

Reaching into the fridge and cracking open a cold beer at home is what we've all had to do a little more recently. However, nothing can beat a couple of pints in the local or exploring some of Singapore's finest on a pub crawl.

The good news is that recently we have been spoiled in Singapore by an ever increasing amount of bars which specialise in quality craft beer. We sat down over a pint and listed some of our favourites. Even better, some have Quality Drops stocked! If you are an outlet interested in the latest fresh craft beer, click here.

Gulp - Riverside Taproom

A bit of shameless self promotion here! We started a taproom with some friends, Beer Clan and The Beer Pioneer down at Robertson Quay. It's a chilled out place with 8 taps on draft, 100 beers in the fridge, wine and Pies from The Piemonger.

You can sit indoors and enjoy the cosy atmosphere or sit on the banks of the Singapore River and watch the world go by.

Address: 7 Rodyk Street, #01-30 (by the riverside)

Smith Street Taps

A legend of the Singapore craft beer scene, this hawker centre stall turned craft beer mecca has up to 12 taps on at once. Set up in nearly 7 years ago by industry pioneers Meng Chao and Daniel Goh. The relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by an abundance of hawker stalls makes it the perfect place to hang out for the evening.

Address: #02-062, 335 Chinatown Food Complex

Orh Gao Taproom

Set on the corner of Bukit Timah Road and Farrer Road, Orh Gao is our perfect day session spot. It's also where we launched Quality Drops! At 2pm the beers start pouring. With three levels of seating areas, there is somewhere to chill whether you fancy sunning yourself with a pale ale or hiding away inside enjoying a stout. Complimented by classic Peranakan style snacks, there's no need to leave!

Address: Serene Centre, Bukit Timah Road

Yeastside

Just a few stops away on the Downtown Line takes you to 'King Albert Park' where you will find Yeastside sitting on a crossroads that will have you questioning if you ever left Orh Gao. However, Yeastside is different - coffee and bakes by day, sourdough pizza and craft beer by night. The 12 taps rotate often and upstairs you will find a fridge full of natural wines and beers. They have both outdoor seating and airconditioned upstairs seating for whatever you fancy!

Address: #01-09, 9 King Albert Park + 2 Perumal Rd, Singapore 218773

MALT/AMLT

Heading the otherside of town to Beach Road is a modern, minimalist taproom named after a bit of Hokkien lingo. 'Ang Mo Liang Teh' loosly translates to Caucasian Cooling Tea, aka beer! Malt is also a key ingredient in beer as well all know, so now you know about the name. The tap room runs 12 taps of ever rotating kegs and if you work your way through all of them, ask the bar staff for a wider selection, they will look after you! MALT often hosts events or takeovers and have great pizza from next door.

Address: #01-07, 302 Beach Road

Ren Min

A pair of hawker stalls who have recently stepped into the world of brewing, they offer the perfect place to explore food from two of Singapore's best hawkers whilst enjoying a brew. Ren Min (People in Mandarin) are located at Old Airport Road (Hello) and Maxwell (Welcome), offer a wide range of draft, including their own, as well a fridge to raid if you get bored!

Located in Chijmes, you can take a break from a hot day or hide away from the rain by spending hours in AF. A long tap list and a fridge full of quality, the minimalist vibe is the perfect place to try a wide range of styles and flavours. Some good tunes and good bites are also on offer. Regular tap takeovers so follow them on social media for updates.

Shawn's Beer Nest

Shawn's has an awesome array of beers from all over the world on tap and in the fridge. Serving what we could call a craft beer desert in Singapore, if we are up this way we will always pay a visit. Shawn's a lovely fella to so definitely start talking to him about whisky and travel - oh wait that's two of our favourites as well!

Address: 231 Upper Thomson Road

Vertigo 26

Music, craft beer, cocktails... 3 of our favourite things. Part record store, part bar, it's fair to say that we have spent a fair few nights in here enjoying the laid-back atmosphere and the awesome bar bites. Whether it's a rainy day afternoon chill or date night - we would highly recommend giving Vertigo a visit. They have six taps of beer and regularly one of these is a Quality Drop!

Freebird

It's fair to say that the East Coast Rd area around Katong, Joo Chiat is really popping off for craft beer at the moment. Freebird has become a little regular on our visits around the area. Occupying 2 units and outdoor seating, you will soon forget what time it is and be there all night. 12 taps and a fridge of regularly rotating beers and a well thought through food menu to match. Situated in Katong Shoipping Centre, it's also a bit like stepping into old school Singapore, which for us, makes it a must visit.

Sonny's Pizza

Tucked away behind Boat Quay is a little joint which has everything you need in life - pizza by the slice and a fridge full of craft beer, wine and cocktails. Better yet, they are very reasonably priced so once you are there, you are there for a while. Nothing wrong with that though!

From the famous team behind Lad & Dad, these guys serve up some of the best British style grub on the island. In their new branch you can expect a self serve fish n' chip shop, which we think is pretty legit! That's not all, there is a fridge full of craft beer and a beer garden atmosphere to go along!
